Claiming My Spot as the Next Loose Cannon on PokerStars’ Big Game in 2024

Claiming My Spot as the Next Loose Cannon on PokerStars’ Big Game in 2024

As I prepare for the 2024 qualifiers at Resorts World Las Vegas, the excitement of another shot at becoming the Loose Cannon is palpable. The North American Poker Tour (NAPT) returns this week with a festival filled with high-stakes action, including the Main Event, High Rollers, and Mixed Game Festival. But for me and many others, the most thrilling part is undoubtedly the Big Game on Tour’s search for its next Loose Cannon—a unique opportunity that blends poker skill with a bit of showmanship and a shot at stardom.

The Big Game on Tour audition process is not your typical poker qualifier; it’s a chance to step under the bright lights of television, perform in front of a live audience, and battle against some of the biggest names in poker. The Loose Cannon—staked with a $50,000 starting stack—faces a lineup of poker legends, celebrities, and high-stakes enthusiasts with 150 hands of no-limit hold’em (after the flop). The beauty of this role is that the Loose Cannon takes home any profit they make beyond that starting stack of 50k, with absolutely nothing to lose! 💰

The upcoming qualifiers take place from October 30 to November 4, 2024 with three scheduled events capped at 80-120 players each. The format is straightforward yet challenging: it’s an 8-max freezeout, with 10-minute levels and a starting stack of 10,000 chips. Players must reach a 50,000 chip stack to move on, with about 20% of the field advancing to auditions. This format is know as a “milestone” tournament.

And since it’s first come, first served for tournament registrations, it’s best to secure your spot early. Those who make the cut will undergo a series of interviews, games, and challenges on November 4-5, where the panel of judges, led by hosts James Hartigan, Joe Stapleton and Nadya Magnus will decide who earns a seat at the table.

Adding a fun twist this year, there’s a Costume Contest for Halloween —players who show up in their best costumes will have the chance to win a prize from Joe Stapleton. It’s a reminder that poker in Vegas isn’t just about skill; it’s also about having a little fun and making a memorable impression. 🃏 👻 🃏

2024 Qualifier schedule:

•Oct 30: 4pm – Flight #A (Cap 80)

•Oct 31: 11am – Flight #B (Cap 80)

•Nov 4: 10am – Flight #C (Cap 120)

For me, this is not just a poker competition; it’s an opportunity for redemption. After coming so close in 2023—finishing 3rd out of 200 in the audition process and leaving a lasting impression on the judges—I’m determined to make 2024 my year.

The memory of bluffing my way through a game of "Two Truths and A Bluff” remains a highlight, even if I didn’t progress to the final stage. Now, I look forward to taking on the qualifiers again, sharpened my skills, and ready to prove that I belong at that table as the next Loose Cannon!

The prospect of playing in a cash game alongside poker greats like Phil Hellmuth and Maria Ho, and in the same spotlight as celebrities such as Rob Gronkowski and Nick Wright, is both daunting and exhilarating. But as they say in Vegas, anything is possible. Well, that and a few other things. 🐔 🍽️

This time, I’m ready to claim my rightful place and show the world what I can do when the cards are in my hands. The road to redemption starts now, and I’m determined to make the most of this opportunity. So, keep an eye out for me at the NAPT in Las Vegas. This time, I’m not just auditioning for a chance to play—I’m coming back to claim what’s rightfully mine. I’m coming back to be the Loose Cannon who takes the poker world by storm! ⛈️
